New Year's Eve Family Sing-a-long & Jam

At 11am on Dec. 31st, I'm hosting a New Year's Eve Family Sing-a-Long & Jam at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Bring your voices and your instruments. I'll bring chord changes so parents and bigger kids can play along on their guitars, ukes, accordions, etc. And everyone is invited to sing along as we ring in the New Year a little early (we'll be counting down to noon). bk.knittingfactory.com

Holiday sing-a-long schedule

A lot of people have been asking me if any sing-a-longs will be canceled or rescheduled over the next few weeks.

The answer is no. All my sing-a-longs will continue on their regular schedule through the end of the December and the first week of January. For a few of them, one of my fabulous subs -- Ari Brand or Deidre Rodman-Struck (of the Itty Biddies) -- will fill in. Otherwise I will be there. I hate missing sing-a-longs.

Thanksgiving Week Schedule Changes

My sing-a-long schedule will change the week of Nov. 21 - 25 due to the Thanksgiving holidays. The following week it will return to normal.

Regular sing-a-long at Waltz-Astoria in Queens (10:30am)

Tuesday, Nov. 22
Sing-a-longs at Perch in Park Slope (10am) and the Moxie Spot in Brooklyn Heights (11am) will happen but will be lead by Ari Brand.

Wednesday, Nov. 23
No sing-a-long at the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg

Thursday, Nov. 24
No sing-a-long at Dean Street Restaurant in Prospect Heights

Friday, Nov. 25
No sing-a-long at Play Kids in Prospect Heights w/ Lloyd or at the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg w/ Ari

Monday, Nov. 28
Sing-a-long schedule returns to normal. See sidebar at right.

High-Line Hoppers: a free class starting Aug 30

At last, here are the details on the free class I've been hinting might happen: 

It's called High-Line Hoppers because it's going to happen under the High-Line (located on the west side of Manhattan) in a performance / community event space called the Lot. 

High-Line Hoppers is an interactive music and storytelling class for children 5 and under and their caregivers taught by Lloyd Miller of the Deedle Deedle Dees (AKA me).

 

brief description: 

In this highly interactive class, children will explore how to make NYC beautiful and useful via original and classic songs, stories, hands-on activities, and movement games. Our city's youngest inhabitants will learn about cooperation and problem-solving as they sing about real-life heroes in our neighborhood, move and dance like the plants and animals that share the city with us, and listen to simple age-appropriate stories of teamwork and urban renewal. The Lot, a parking lot underneath the High Line re-purposed for community events, is the setting for this unique program.

Ages: 0 to 5 with parents or caregivers

cost: free 

dates: four Tuesdays at 3:30pm: August 30, Sept 6, Sept 13, Sept 20

The class will last about 45 minutes.

I'm almost ready to post my fall sing-a-long schedule. I'm definitely returning to Waltz-Astoria, Perch, the Moxie Spot, and the Knitting Factory in September but just haven't decided on the exact dates I'll begin.

Free class in Manhattan
I'm (most likely) going to teach a free class in Manhattan for kids 5 and under at a really cool location. Four Tuesdays at 3:30 starting Aug. 30. Still hashing out the specifics but will post as soon as I know.

Summer sing-a-long plan

I'll be doing my last sing-a-longs until September this week at Waltz-Astoria in Queens (Monday), Perch in Park Slope and Moxie Spot in Brooklyn Heights (Tuesday), and the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg (Wednesday). Come and sing with me one more time!

Ari Brand will be filling in for all these weekly sing-a-longs throughout the summer. Ari is an amazing musician and great with the kids -- he subbed for me this spring while the Dees were on tour and leads Moxie Spot's regular Sunday sing-a-long. You'll like him.

Knitting Factory sing-a-long moves to Wednesdays in March

Due to out-of-town shows and other commitments, I have to move my Friday sing-a-long at the Knitting Factory to Wednesdays starting Wednesday, March 2.

Here's the March sing-a-long schedule for the Knit:

Fri, Mar 11 - 11am
Weds, Mar 23 - 11am
Weds, Mar 30 - 11am

Note: There are two sing-a-longs one week and none the next. The second week of March I'll do sing-a-longs on Wednesday the 9th and Friday the 11th. The following week there will be no Knit sing-a-longs. They'll resume Wednesday, March 23, and continue on Wednesdays from then on.

Don't forget: Saturday, March 12 is the next Deedle Deedle Dees Family Variety Show. Audra and Jen of AudraRox will be joining us for a Women's History extravaganza!

Tea Lounge and Moxie Spot sing-a-longs are back Tuesday, Feb. 21

After a one-week hiatus, I'll be back at my weekly sing-a-longs at the Tea Lounge in Park Slope (10am) and the Moxie Spot in Brooklyn Heights (11am).

Friday's Knitting Factory sing-a-long will happen at 11 as usual -- but in March we're going to move to Wednesdays. See next post.
