There won't be a sing-a-long at the Knitting Factory today. Ari will return next Wednesday.

High-Line Hoppers: a free class starting Aug 30

At last, here are the details on the free class I've been hinting might happen: 

It's called High-Line Hoppers because it's going to happen under the High-Line (located on the west side of Manhattan) in a performance / community event space called the Lot. 

High-Line Hoppers is an interactive music and storytelling class for children 5 and under and their caregivers taught by Lloyd Miller of the Deedle Deedle Dees (AKA me).

 

brief description: 

In this highly interactive class, children will explore how to make NYC beautiful and useful via original and classic songs, stories, hands-on activities, and movement games. Our city's youngest inhabitants will learn about cooperation and problem-solving as they sing about real-life heroes in our neighborhood, move and dance like the plants and animals that share the city with us, and listen to simple age-appropriate stories of teamwork and urban renewal. The Lot, a parking lot underneath the High Line re-purposed for community events, is the setting for this unique program.

Ages: 0 to 5 with parents or caregivers

cost: free 

dates: four Tuesdays at 3:30pm: August 30, Sept 6, Sept 13, Sept 20

The class will last about 45 minutes.

I'm almost ready to post my fall sing-a-long schedule. I'm definitely returning to Waltz-Astoria, Perch, the Moxie Spot, and the Knitting Factory in September but just haven't decided on the exact dates I'll begin.

Free class in Manhattan
I'm (most likely) going to teach a free class in Manhattan for kids 5 and under at a really cool location. Four Tuesdays at 3:30 starting Aug. 30. Still hashing out the specifics but will post as soon as I know.

Summer sing-a-long plan

I'll be doing my last sing-a-longs until September this week at Waltz-Astoria in Queens (Monday), Perch in Park Slope and Moxie Spot in Brooklyn Heights (Tuesday), and the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg (Wednesday). Come and sing with me one more time!

Ari Brand will be filling in for all these weekly sing-a-longs throughout the summer. Ari is an amazing musician and great with the kids -- he subbed for me this spring while the Dees were on tour and leads Moxie Spot's regular Sunday sing-a-long. You'll like him.
